2024 Year-in-Review

Join us as we sit down in the Harvest Kitchen to reflect on 2024 and look forward in anticipation and excitement for 2025.

This year was a full year in terms of productivity and growth, not only on our homestead but also in our businesses. We shared a while back how 2025 is going to be an intentional year of rest for our family, so if you missed that episode, you can go check it out.

We saw many systems finally come to fruition, such as our multi-species rotational grazing system for our livestock, utilizing our barn waste to create fertility in our pastures, and finishing up our large barn expansion project and shoring up some of the systems within the barn to make it more manageable during the winter.

Grab a cup of tea or coffee and pull up a chair as we have some chit-chat on today’s episode of the Pantry Chat:

In This Episode:

  • 2025 is a year of rest for our family, but that doesn’t mean a year off. We still plan to grow a garden, raise livestock and manage a busy household, but we’re pulling back on the forward progress of some of our larger projects for the year.
  • Our oldest daughter, Rachel, has agreed to head up the garden management for the 2025 season, and we’re excited to see her step up to lead the rest of the family and interns.
  • We may have reached the threshold for how much food we need to grow in a year! Based on my interview with Jason Ross, we’re going to start thinking about how we can prepare to share and close loops to start feeding our animals, eliminating the reliance on feed.
  • We’re working our way through our detox from the toxins in our bodies with Dr. Torrie. If you missed our journey, you can read all about our health journey and glyphosate toxicity here.
  • Writing and publishing my new book, Freeze Drying the Harvest, was very exciting, challenging and rewarding!
  • We welcomed the birth of our first grandchild! We now have a little granddaughter, and that’s been such a joy.
  • In 2025, we’re looking forward to a year with fewer projects and adapting to a slower pace. We’re also looking forward to immersing ourselves deeper into the joy we find in our hobbies.
  • Be sure to join Carolyn for a five-day FREE training called How to Homestead From Anywhere Crash Course.
