Notes

Recipe Variations:
Though there are countless herb seasoning blends on the market, this blend is made up of three of my favorites: peppermint, French tarragon and sage.
If you’d like to experiment with the herbs in your blend, here are some of the most popular herbs that are widely regarded as the best for seasoning:
  • Peppermint – Peppermint is used both in medicinal and culinary applications for its refreshing and cooling effects. Peppermint adds vibrant color with a burst of freshness, complementing meats, sauces, marinades, and salads.
  • Sage – In the U.S., the flavor of sage is most commonly associated with Thanksgiving chestnut stuffing. Yet, this earthy and peppery herb has applications far beyond that. It pairs well with savory dishes with pork, sausage, or poultry and lends a fresh note to pasta, rice, and roasted vegetables.
  • French Tarragon – Among the French, this herb is known as the king. Its light notes of citrus and licorice enhance salads, roasted vegetables, eggs, fish, and poultry dishes.
  • Rosemary – With its earthy and pine-like flavor, rosemary is perfect for seasoning roasted meats and vegetables. It adds a delightful aroma to dishes and pairs well with garlic for a classic Mediterranean taste.
  • Thyme – Known for its subtle and slightly lemony flavor, thyme is a versatile herb that complements a wide range of dishes. It works well in soups, stews, sauces, and even roasted potatoes.
  • Basil – Basil is a popular herb that adds a fresh and slightly sweet flavor to dishes. It is commonly used in Italian cuisine, particularly in pesto sauces, tomato-based dishes, and as a topping for pizzas.
  • Oregano – With its robust and slightly bitter flavor, oregano is a staple herb in Mediterranean and Mexican cuisines. It goes well with tomatoes, pizza, pasta sauce, and grilled meats.
  • Parsley – Parsley is a versatile herb that adds a fresh and vibrant flavor to dishes. It is often used as a garnish but can also be incorporated into sauces, marinades, and salads.

Storage Instructions:
Keep your seasoning in a glass canning jar with a tight lid. Store away from light, heat, and moisture (so not above the stove). While it stays safe indefinitely, the flavor is best within the first 6–12 months.
Homesteading Hack: Make a fresh batch each fall right after your herb harvest; that’s when they’re most potent and fragrant.

How to Use Garlic and Herb Seasoning Mix:
When it comes to enhancing the flavor of your dishes, garlic herb seasoning is a game-changer. Its combination of aromatic garlic and a blend of savory herbs can elevate your cooking to new heights. Here are some practical tips and suggestions to help you make the most of this versatile seasoning:
Application Suggestion Instructions
Season Meats Generously sprinkle garlic herb seasoning mix on your favorite meats before grilling, roasting, or pan-searing. The savory flavors will infuse into the meat, creating a mouthwatering and aromatic experience.
Enhance Vegetables Toss your roasted or steamed vegetables with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of garlic herb seasoning for a burst of flavor. The herbs will complement the natural sweetness of the vegetables, taking your side dishes to a whole new level.
Elevate Soups and Stews Add a tablespoon or two of this mix to an easy soup or stew to enhance the depth of flavors. The combination of herbs will add complexity and richness to your comforting dishes.
Upgrade Homemade Bread For a delicious twist on no-knead artisan bread, incorporate the seasoning into your homemade dough. The aromas of garlic and herbs will permeate the loaf, making every bite a delight.
