Since we raise meat chickens here at Riverbend, we’re eating a lot of roasted chicken throughout the year. Our chickens are pasture-raised in a mobile chicken tractor and are fed homemade fermented chicken feed for better health.

Since we have such a large family, we’re usually eating four chickens at a time, so that’s a lot of chickens to raise for a year’s worth of meat. You might be wondering how much land is needed to raise a year’s worth of meat and how we store a year’s worth of food. Those posts will answer that question, which may surprise you!

How to Make Homemade Poultry Seasoning

Supplies Needed

  • Mason Jars – You’ll want one Mason jar to combine all the dry ingredients, then another Mason jar with an airtight lid for storing the ground seasoning blend.
  • Spice Grinder (optional)- If you prefer a finer powdered seasoning blend, you’ll need a spice grinder. We have a dedicated coffee grinder just for our spices.
  • Measuring Spoons – Most seasoning blends don’t need to be exactly precise, but measuring spoons will come in handy for this recipe.
