5 Ways to Use No-Knead Bread Dough

I love keeping my 5-minute bread dough in the refrigerator for fresh-baked bread every night of the week. And here are five no-knead bread dough uses! Whip up quick and easy rolls, flatbread, artisan bread, and even jam rolls! There are so many quick and easy options for this five-minute bread dough!

Getting a fresh, homemade dinner on the table every night of the week is a lot of work. I don’t love feeding my family fast foods, plus the healthy options of convenience foods are really expensive for a family our size.

That’s why I like to keep a batch of my easy homemade five-minute no-knead bread dough in the refrigerator to use in multiple ways throughout the week.

Herbed Flatbread

During the summer months, when the garden is in full production, I like to make large dinner salads. But with growing children, a salad doesn’t always fill them up, or keep them full for long.

That’s why I love making herbed flatbread with my easy no-knead dough. It’s simple to make, and you don’t even need to let the dough rise before popping it in the oven!

This is an herbed flatbread recipe that’s on the table in about 15 minutes from start to finish.

Easy No-Knead 5-Minute Herbed Flatbread

Using our 5-minute no-knead bread dough, this herbed flatbread is the perfect pair for a large dinner salad or steaming hot bowl of soup to make a full meal. Season with your favorite herbs and dinner is ready!

Ingredients

  • 1/5 batch no-knead bread dough about a grapefruit sized ball of dough.
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp flake salt or pretzel salt

Instructions

  • With wet hands, grab a grapefruit-sized ball of your no-knead bread dough and stretch it onto a silicone mat placed on a cookie sheet.
  • Make dimples in the dough with your fingertips, then brush on the olive oil to coat the surface of the dough.
  • Sprinkle the herbs and salt all over the top of the dough.
  • Bake in a 375 degree F oven for about 8-10 minutes, or until crust is golden brown on the bottom and just starting to turn brown on top.

Notes

  • Try using this dough as a pizza crust! Bake it at 450 degrees F for about 6-8 minutes, top with sauce, cheese and your favorite toppings and bake until cheese is bubbly and crust is golden brown on the bottom (about 5-10 more minutes). 
  • Mix and match the seasonings to find your favorite!
  • Make it sweet by replacing the olive oil with melted butter, then sprinkling a cinnamon and sugar mixture over the top of the melted butter.

Garlic Parmesan Bread Rolls

Whenever we have company showing up really quickly, unexpectedly, I love to whip up a batch of these garlic parmesan bread rolls.

They whip up super quick and they’re so impressive!

Garlic Parmesan Bread Rolls

The perfect dippable roll to dunk in a bowl of marinara. These rolls come together in about 5 minutes, and by the time you're done cleaning up the kitchen, they're ready to come out of the oven! The perfect side for a bowl of soup, or as an appetizer with a bowl of marinara!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/5 recipe no-knead bread dough
  • 1/2 cup parmesan shredded
  • 1 tsp sea salt or pretzel salt

Instructions

  • Melt the butter and mix the garlic into the melted butter.
  • Take a grapefruit-sized ball of the no-knead bread dough and divide it into 6 equal portions.
  • Roll out each portion into a fat log shape and place them onto a silicone-lined baking sheet.
  • Brush the tops liberally with the melted garlic butter and sprinkle generously with parmesan cheese and a sprinkling of sea salt (or pretzel salt).
  • Bake in a preheated 350 degree F oven for about 10-12 minutes.
  • Once the rolls come out of the oven, brush them one more time with the remaining butter and garlic mixture.
  • Serve as an appetizer, on the side of soup, or dunked into marinara!

Notes

  • Mix and match the flavors for this roll!
  • These would be AMAZING dipped into my raw marinara sauce from my fermented tomatoes!
  • These also make great sandwich rolls. Allow them to cool completely, slice in half and top with all your favorite sub sandwich ingredients.

5-Minute No-Knead Bread Rolls

I love a good roasted veggie soup for dinner, but when you have growing kids in the house, that soup doesn’t keep kids very full for very long.

That’s when I love these easy 5-minute no-knead dinner rolls!

Just like the garlic-parmesan rolls or the herbed flatbread recipes above, the variations are endless! Experiment and find your favorite.

TIP: These also make great quick and easy hamburger buns!

A quick and easy side for that bowl of soup (or fantastic and quick hamburger buns!), these dinner rolls will be a hit, slathered with butter or dunked in a bowl of roasted veggie soup.

  • Stretch the dough around onto itself until a nice tight ball is formed.
  • Place dough onto a silicone-lined baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes until just turning golden brown on top.

Serving options:
  • Alongside a bowl of soup. 
  • Sliced in half and slathered with butter. 
  • Sliced in half and used as a hamburger bun.

Jam Rolls

They’re like a cinnamon roll, but filled with delicious homemade jam (or your favorite preserve), rolled up and slathered with melted butter!

I’m not sure there could be a sweeter breakfast!

I certainly love making special treats on weekend mornings, but I don’t always have time to pre-prepare it. That’s where these jam-rolls come into play.

5-Minute Jam Rolls

These homemade jam rolls are a spin on the classic cinnamon roll. Filled with delicious homemade preserves and drizzled with melted butter, you won't find a sweeter breakfast around!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • With wet hands, grab a grapefruit-sized piece of the no-knead bread dough and place it onto a generously floured counter.
  • Flour a rolling pin and roll out the dough until it's about 1/2-1 inch thick and roughly into a rectangle shape.
  • Melt the butter in a pan and brush an 8×8 inch baking pan with the melted butter.
  • Brush the dough with the melted butter until all surfaces are coated.
  • Pour any remaining butter into the bottom of the 8×8 inch pan.
  • Spread the jam all over the surface of the dough and gently roll the dough into a log, lengthwise.
  • Pinch it down at the top to seal in the jam (it's OK if some jam squeezes out).
  • Cut the log into 8 equal portions and place them into the buttered pan.
  • Let the jam rolls rise for 10 minutes.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for about 20-25 minutes until they're just turning golden brown on top.

Notes

  • Use whatever flavor jam you have on hand!
  • Alternatively, you could make these into cinnamon rolls by replacing the jam with about 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon mixed together in a bowl, then sprinkled over the melted butter.

Equipment

  • Banneton basket
  • Cast Iron Dutch Oven

Ingredients

  • 1/5 recipe no-knead bread dough
  • 1 tbsp sundried tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp fresh rosemary or 1/4 tbsp dried rosemary

Instructions

  • Preheat a small Dutch oven in a 350 degree F oven.
  • With wet hands, grab about a grapefruit-sized ball of dough and place it onto a well-floured counter.
  • Stretch the dough into a flattened circle and add sundried tomatoes and rosemary.
  • Roll the dough up into a log, then fold it into itself making a nice round ball of dough.
  • Flour the outside of the bread and drop it carefully into a pre-floured banneton basket.
  • Let rise, covered with a tea towel, for 20 minutes at room temperature.
  • Carefully flip the dough out onto a piece of parchment paper, then place the dough and parchment paper into the preheated cast iron Dutch oven.
  • Cover with a lid and bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  • Remove from pan and allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

Mix and match the flavor add-ins!
  • Sundried Tomato and Basil (replace the rosemary with fresh or dried basil).
  • Jalapeno Cheddar (replace the sundried tomatoes with chopped pickled jalapenos and add about 1/4 cup of shredded cheese).  
  • Cinnamon Raisin Swirl bread (swap out the sundried tomatoes with raisins and add about a tablespoon of a cinnamon-sugar mixture).
